Dating back to the late 1600's, Falls Church began as an early
colonial settlement sharing land with Native Americans. It has since
become a treasure trove of neighborhoods that reflect its great ethnic
and cultural diversity.
In 1962, Falls Church was named an
All-America City and has earned the Tree City USA title 17 years in a
row from the National Arbor Day Foundation.
Lying just a few
miles from the nation's capital, Falls Church's development is
influenced by its proximity to the District. However, it continues to
maintain its small town atmosphere. For instance, the police department
is the "only one in the region that conducts daily house checks if
residents request the service when they are on vacation."
Known
for its dedication to education, Falls Church's George Mason High
School is ranked among the top 25 high schools in the nation by Newsweek
magazine in 2005.
